Gràcia is about 1 km north of the center of Barcelona at the north end of the Passeig de Gràcia and is the most distinctively Catalan neighbourhood to be found in easy walking distance of the center. a prosperous neighborhood, Gràcia nonetheless has more a local than a cosmopolitan feel to it, with much of life lived on the many public squares. El Barri de Gràcia is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in bcn. It was an independent town before the city walls were tore down in order to build the modern city but now it is comprised within the city boundaries. However, it still retains a 'little town' atmosphere and bohemian flair. It is full of narrow streets, food markets, little shops and lovely squares which invite to drink a coffee and chat with the locals in the many open air terraces.
